To improve air quality and reduce vehicle emissions, ADEQ administers a mandatory vehicle emissions testing and repair program known as Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP).VEIP emphasizes the importance of maintaining vehicle performance to lower emissions and extend the life of one of your most valuable assets – your car. VEIP uses new testing technology and customer service measures to increase the effectiveness of emissions testing and shorten the time customers spend in the testing process.

Who is required to have their vehicle emissions tested? All residents of the greater Phoenix and Tucson areas and those who regularly commute into the areas for work or school are required to have their 1967 or newer vehicles pass an emissions test. Most vehicles newer than 6 years old are exempt from testing, and certain other vehicle exemptions apply (see Exemptions).
The Vehicle Emissions Control Section (VECS) created the Recognized Repair Facility (RRF) Program to reduce unready or failing emissions inspection results. RRFs are businesses that meet certain license and certification requirements. The following locations earned the RRF distinction for demonstrating considerable success in the repair of emissions-failing vehicles.
